B.Sc ACCOUNTING

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is to produce graduates who have acquired competence in financial accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, taxation, auditing, government sector accounting and accounts and financial reporting. In addition, the students would be able to prepare financial plans, forecasts and budgets, assist in decision making by performing financial investigations and reporting thereon, device and install systems for accurate recording and processing of financial transactions, provide a check (Auditing) of the financial system on accounting data. The courses offered are interdisciplinary, including sciences and quantitative techniques. Thus, justifying the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

Objectives

To educate and train graduates to acquire high degree of competence and in accounting procedures and up-to-date theoretical developments in accounting.

To produce competent accountants who can apply theoretical knowledge and accounting techniques to practical situations and problem solving as regards financial matters.   

To educate and train students to develop positive values such as accountability and transparency, probity, hard work, discipline, dedication, commitment, etc. which are necessary for national development.  

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

100 Level Entry Requirement

Five O’Level credits including English Language, Mathematics, Accounting or Economics and two other relevant subjects.

 200 Level Entry Requirements

 HSC/GCE A’Level Credit passes in two subjects chosen from Accounting, Economics, Business Management or statistics and Five O’Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Accounting or Economics and two other relevant subjects.

OND in Accounting, Information Technology or Business Admin with class not less than Lower credit and Five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.

HND in accounting related field and Five O’Level credits including English Language, Mathematics, Accounting or Economics and two other relevant subjects.

 Duration:                      A maximum of Ten (10) Semesters

 Degree to be Awarded:          B.Sc. Accounting
