Philosophy
The philosophy underlying the Economics programme of the Centre is to produce a flow of graduates with enthusiasm to make their contributions to Nigeria, Africa and the world at large by equipping them with a broader foundation of knowledge in the field of Economics and related disciplines. It also seeks to equip students with broad foundations in theory, research and applied Economics and build their confidence, analytical and problem solving capacities to face the fundamental problem of development in our society.

Objectives

  1. To train economists with adequate skills and knowledge of econometrics models and management concepts, techniques and practices and their proper application for solving problems in the public and private sectors of the economy.
  2. To educate and train graduates who would acquire the responsibility of promoting industrial development and technological advance of this country.

  3. To create conducive atmosphere for positive behavioral changes which would enable students develop values like hard work, commitment, dedication, probity, accountability and transparency, creativity, discipline, self-reliance and patriotism which are necessary for the achievement of Nigeria’s national development objectives.

 Admission Requirements

 100 Level Entry Requirement

 Five O’Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two arts or social science subjects.

 200 Level Entry Requirement

  1.  HSC/GCE A’Level credit passes in two subjects; Economics and any of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Agric. Science, Accounting and Business Management and Five O’Level Credits including English Language and Mathematics.
  2. OND in related field with class not less than Lower credit and Five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.

  3. HND in related field and Five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.

 Duration:                      A maximum of Ten (10) Semesters

 Degree to be Awarded:          B.Sc. Economics
